Care tips for jewellery

We would like to tell you about a few cleaning and care tips before you wear your favourite jewellery for the first time.
We have put together the most important care tips and tricks here.

Prevention

It is advisable to keep your new piece of jewellery in its box to keep it looking beautiful for longer and avoid scratches – that applies for costume jewellery and genuine pieces alike. Costume jewellery should not come into contact with (sea)water, perfume, cosmetics, sweat, cleaning agents, oils and creams. We also recommend taking off your costume jewellery before sports, taking a shower or stepping into the sauna. That will prevent discolouration and the coating will remain intact. Metallic objects can leave scratches on the surface and should be avoided.
Schmuck reinigen
Jewellery cleaning

Minor soiling can be easily removed from costume jewellery with soap and water. We do, however, recommend using a cotton or microfibre cloth if you are cleaning your delicate costume jewellery yourself. Small details can be additionally reworked using a toothbrush.
Genuine jewellery will naturally lose its lustre over time and become duller. We recommend having it cleaned professionally by a jeweller once a year.

Goldschmuck reinigen
Cleaning gold jewellery

Jewellery made of gold only, without gems, pearls or crystals can be easily cleaned in a bowl with lukewarm water and a little dish-washing liquid. Leave the gold to soak in the bowl for a short while. It can then be rinsed with clean water and dried with a soft cloth.

Silberschmuck reinigen
Cleaning silver jewellery

Silver can tarnish over time. The so-called black patina can be cleaned in soapy water. Stains can be removed easily with a silver or microfibre cloth and a silver cleaning paste.

Edelstahl reinigen
Cleaning stainless steel jewellery

Stainless steel jewellery is very easy to care for. Use a gentle microfibre cloth or a precious metal care cloth for glossy surfaces. Major soiling can best be removed with cotton wool. Your jewellery will look like new and regain its original lustre in just a few minutes.

Edelsteine/Perlen reinigen
Cleaning gemstones/pearls

Jewellery with gemstones should be kept away from any chemical agents and soaps. The gemstones can be cleaned in water and any remaining dirt can then be gently removed. We recommend using a soft cloth for final rework.
Don't put on your pearl jewellery until after you have applied your make-up, creams and perfume. Any make-up residue can be wiped off the pearls with a moist soft cloth. Make sure to avoid your jewellery coming into contact with chemicals while gardening or doing housework. Excessive heat and moisture should also be avoided.

Uhren reinigen
Watch cleaning

A watch is a timeless accessory and is exposed to many types of soiling when it is worn regularly. Any rough cleaning agents or those with chlorine content should be avoided in the care of the sensitive metal parts. They could cause scratches in the plating or the glass face. Please only use a lint-free and slightly moistened cloth. Use a toothpick to remove residual soiling in the grooves.
